Origins

The Human Rights Awareness Tour started as a week of events geared towards educating students about the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The first Human Rights Awareness week was put on by a small, dedicated group of Human Rights Minors at the University of Connecticut, one of the few institutions to offer a degree on the subject. As members of the student group Idealists United, these students sought to complete their internships through an exciting and entertaining series of events sponsored by the student organization. The ultimate week was so successful that the now-graduated organizors decided to bring it on tour, to raise awareness among students across the nation.
